Heat advisory for much of Nebraska Friday before cooling this weekend
Friday is here and we’re expecting one really hot and humid afternoon before a front comes in late and cooler temperatures are in the forecast this weekend.
With the sun rising and peak heating this afternoon, we’ll see several hours feeling like the lower 100s.
Friday is one of those days where a cold front will start to move into western Nebraska: out ahead of it, it’ll get really steamy; while behind it later tonight, there’ll be some storm chances with a low-end severe risk.
A Heat Advisory will be in effect for the eastern half of the state ahead of that front from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday evening. The heat index will peak around 105-110° today.
Behind the front Friday evening and night, there will be an isolated chance at some stronger storms with a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk coming to an end around Lincoln and Omaha.
Here’s the latest timing of those storms forming behind the front closer to sunset and into Friday night:
That cold front stalls a bit in southeast Nebraska early Saturday, driving another low-end chance for strong to severe isolated storms in far southeast Nebraska.
There’s a small chance at spotty showers throughout Saturday, though a better chance at some showers and storms toward Saturday night into Sunday.
Monday is left a lot cooler with a high only reaching the upper 70s potentially. Then we’ll heat up toward the start of school.
