Heavy, wet snow expected across eastern Nebraska
Snow first falls in central and northern parts of the state, with SE Nebraska seeing rain/mix early Monday morning. Travel will likely be impacted Monday afternoon and evening in eastern Nebraska, as a winter storm makes its way through the region.
A few updates have been made to the winter weather watches/warnings as of Sunday evening. All of eastern, central and some SW counties are included in a Winter Storm Warning (pink) from early Monday until Tuesday morning and noon for some SE counties. Heavier snow totals and stronger winds expected.
A Winter Storm Advisory (light purple) is in place from midnight Monday to 6:00 am Tuesday for parts of western Nebraska. Smaller snow totals and lighter winds are expected.
A slight rain/snow mix will start first early Monday morning in SE Nebraska, before transitioning into mainly snow mid-morning. Afternoon and evening commutes will likely be impacted. Snowfall will pick up into the evening and carry on into early Tuesday. The snow will linger over much of eastern Nebraska throughout Monday, then again into Tuesday.
Snow totals have been adjusted slightly, expanding across the entire eastern half of the state and a little more west. Snow totals have also been increased just a bit, 4-8″ are likely in eastern Nebraska (dark blue), some isolated areas of 8+” are possible.
When you factor in the heavy, wet snow that’s 4-8+ inches of extra weight to powerlines, roofs, trees and yourselves when shoveling. Take precaution when heading outdoors in these conditions, and allow yourself breaks when shoveling.
The chance of seeing over 4″ for eastern and central Nebraska is 70-90%, with smaller chances the more west you go.
Monday will be windy, but Tuesday winds really pick up. Wind speeds from the ESE at 15-20 mph, with gusts ranging from 40-50 mph in SE Nebraska are possible.
