Hello to spring and a short warm up
For us meteorologists, spring started on March 1st based on the temperature cycle. But Tuesday marks the spring equinox and the start of the season of spring based on our orientation to the sun.
Thankfully, it’ll feel more like spring throughout the start of spring on Tuesday. Temperatures so far in the morning have started out warmer in the middle 30s. A dry, cool front will be moving through early on and we’ll see a wind shift from that. That’ll usher colder air in the days to come.
Because of some warmer air aloft, we’ll still see a very pleasant day with temperatures warming into the 60s and near 70s across Nebraska.
This warm up is short-lived, though. The rest of the work week will be when 40s and 50s will be common for highs.
By Thursday and Friday, a couple small shots at precipitation come our way. The more meaningful and possibly impactful chances come over the weekend into early next week – as soon as Saturday.
A rain/snow mix will be first possible on Saturday before mainly rain takes over on Sunday. We could see a few thunderstorms Sunday as well.
Then Monday into Tuesday, a transition over to snow looks possible.
Our limited view of this event is why we’ll stay general about what we’re expecting in the coming days. Below is what some longer-range versions of Stormcast are saying as of Tuesday for this weekend.
We’ve got plenty of time to work on finer details as we get closer, but this will be a time period to check back in with us frequently.
