Hepatitis Outbreak Concerns Fremont Residents

Hundreds of Nebraskans are demanding some answers. They want to know what caused a Hepatitis C outbreak at a Fremont oncology clinic. 10 patients of that clinic have been tested and they have the liver damaging disease. Hundreds more are getting tested.

A special clinic has been set up in Fremont to test upwards of 600 patients of Dr. Tahir Javed. The state health department say the outbreak of Hepatitis C happened after safety measures for handling blood products apparently were not followed at the clinic.

Dr. Tahir Javed is currently out of the country which adds to the mystery of what happened. State health officials say Hepatitis C acts slowly and no-one is in immediate danger.
