‘Needed each other’: COVID nurse and patient’s family reconnect after emotional meeting
After two weeks of searching, one Nebraska woman finally meets the nurse who comforted her in her husband's final hours.

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Beth McGrath was “on the verge of a complete panic meltdown” when Nicole, a Nebraska Medicine nurse, came to comfort her.
At the time, Nicole was caring for Beth’s husband who would, unfortunately, pass away after a battle with COVID-19.
All Beth had was Nicole’s first name and deep gratitude towards her. So, she wrote a letter to Nebraska Medicine, hoping they could pass it on to her Nicole.

Thanks to social media, Beth and Nicole were able to reconnect. Beth’s “Nicole” was 26-year-old Nicole Goodwin.
Goodwin said with the toll the pandemic has been taking on her and other healthcare workers, the letter touched her.
“I think I needed to hear that as much as she needed to put it out there,” said Goodwin. “I definitely think we might’ve needed each other in that moment.”
Goodwin also emphasized that this situation is not unique. Healthcare workers across the state are providing this important care to patients and families every single day.
