‘He’s a freak athlete’: Husker Thomas Fidone excelling on and off field

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Newly appointed Husker tight end coach Josh Martin is impressed by Thomas Fidone.
At a press conference Tuesday, Martin – who was elevated to the role after Bob Wager resigned – said “he’s a freak athlete.”
But the Council Bluffs, Iowa, native has yet to show fans his abilities.
For the past two years, Fidone has spent much of his time on the sidelines, marred by injuries.
During that time, Martin said Fidone has learned a lot in the film room, preparing himself for his first game with Nebraska.
“I’ve been really proud of Thomas and his progression on the field and then just in the film room,” he said.
Martin said that Fidone is a “constant seeker of knowledge” and a perfectionist.

Head coach Matt Rhule said the sophomore tight end is always working with coaches to improve.
“Every day I’m just trying to, you know, get 1% better,” Fidone said.
After about two years of waiting, Husker fans will likely see Fidone in Nebraska’s season opener against Minnesota.
“Whatever happens, happens,” he said. “But I’m going to shoot for the stars.”
