High school football preview: Lincoln East, a team ‘pushing each other to be great’
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln East Spartans are looking to build off a solid season in 2023, finishing 7-4 and falling in the second round of the playoffs.
The Spartans are a young team looking to keep things simple and play fundamentally sound football
“We just want to be competitive, we don’t want to turn the ball over, play some solid defense and play four quarters,” said head coach John Gingery.
The team is hoping that a tight bond amongst themselves could be an ‘X’ factor for the Spartans.
“We have a really tight knit group this year. We’re having a lot of fun competing,” said senior kicker and punter Colin Nehe.
The Spartans lost a lot of production due to graduation, but Gingery thinks a committee-style offense will get the job done.
“We’ll do it in a group,” said Gingery. “We’ve got some good young kids coming, so we won’t rely on one kid too much. We’re going to spread the ball around.”
Lincoln East starts its campaign at home against Elkhorn South on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7:00 p.m.
