LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – History Nebraska has given a $40,000 grant to Lincoln to help preserve the city’s history.

On Tuesday, History Nebraska announced that it had awarded grants to Lincoln, Omaha and Auburn.  Funds will go to the city’s Certifed Local Government program for preservation activities.

The Certified Local Government program helps protect and promote historical resources through planning efforts and educational programming, History Nebraska says.

Lincoln will use the funds to create a management plan for Robber’s Cave, digitize material related to historic resources, create additional information on its website and hold lectures.

Omaha was given $60,710.40 to write a National Register of Historical Places nomination for the Leavenworth Park commercial district and update the boundaries of the South Omaha Main Street Historic District.

They will also use the money to update their website with additional content on historic properties and GIS information.

Auburn received $9,495 for expanding its historical preservation content on the city’s website, creating a new walking tour and holding open houses in rehabilitated buildings.

City officials will also be attending Nebraska Main Street Network training to learn more about historic preservation projects in other communities.
