Home in Eagle explodes into flames overnight

A home at the end of a cul de sac on Deer Haven Trail on the Woodland Hills Golf Course in Eagle burst into flames Wednesday night.
Neighbors say they heard the boom around 11:20 p.m., then pops and bangs.
The couple living there and their dog all got out safely.
Six rural fire crews responded to the fire, including Palmyra-Douglas, Bennet, Unadilla, and Eagle-Alvo – all volunteer fire and rescue crews.
EMT’s rushed around the scene, handing out water to firefighters as crews rotated in and out from battling the flames, every one of them hot and exhausted.
The house is set back in the tree line at the end of the cul de sac, making it difficult for fire crews to get trucks in.
We spoke with the homeowners son, who said the fire started in the back of the house where the family had been grilling earlier that day.
The pops and bangs neighbors heard were coming from fireworks stored in the garage, lit up by the fire.
Power to the neighbor’s houses on either side was shut off.
Fire crews will continue to remain at the scene well into the morning, working to contain hot spots.
