Homecoming victory: Lincoln Pius X squeaks by Blair, gets first win of the season
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – It was homecoming at Lincoln Pius X on Friday night, and the Thunderbolts did not disappoint, beating Blair 35-28 on their home turf.
It was a back-and-forth first half, ending in a touchdown pass from the Thunderbolts’ Maddox Easley to put his team up 21-13 at the break.
The Bolts opened up the second half with some stingy defense, getting a pick-six from senior linebacker Joseph Andreasen to extend their lead to 15.
But mistakes on special teams let the Bears back into the game.
A muffed punt by the Bolts turned into a Brock Templar touchdown run for the Bears, cutting the lead to 28-20.
Another muffed punt in the fourth quarter turned into another Templar touchdown.
Templar ran in the 2-point conversion, and the game was tied at 28 with less than five minutes to play.
The Bolts responded with a touchdown drive of their own, taking a 35-28 lead with 1:18 left.
A last-second heave by Blair to the end zone with no time left on the clock came up just short, giving the Bolts their first win of the season.
