Hope Crisis Center of Nebraska to host online support groups for victims of abuse

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Hope Crisis Center of Nebraska announced an online support group for sexual assault victims will be available this August.

Cari Emerson, a sexual assault advocate at the nonprofit, said virtual sessions would be able to reach people across southeast Nebraska.

“We do see a great need,” she said.

Emerson said the nonprofit is expecting to start with smaller sessions with about 10 people, as they’d like victims to move at their own pace.

“Every month that may look different, we’re not going to cut it off,” she said. “We want victims to come in, and that’s also why we don’t have like a set curriculum because we want victims to be able to jump in at any time.”

The Hope Crisis Center will host four courses from August to November, each taking place on the third Wednesday of every month.

Emerson said the support group will provide an outlet and resources, but ultimately the nonprofit’s goal is to give hope to sexual assault survivors.
