Horse named in honor of fallen Omaha officer set to join force as mounted patrol unit

An Omaha police officer killed in the line of duty will receive a big honor Thursday.
A horse named Orozco will officially graduate from his training to join the Omaha Police force as a mounted patrol horse.
The horse is named after officer Kerrie Orozco, an OPD gang unit detective, who died after being shot while serving a warrant.
The animal was donated by Orozco’s husband.
The department also has a special plaque in the horse’s stall that symbolizes the officer’s sacrifice and legacy.
