Hot and dry Friday with evening storm chances
One more warm and muggy day ahead, followed by a cool down for the weekend. Storm chances continue into the start of next week.
We are forecasting Friday’s high temperatures to reach the upper 90s with a potential for many lower 100s. It will be another warm and muggy day.
It’s always good to take extra care of yourselves and your pets while exposed to these temperatures for long periods of time.
With potential to be the warmest day of the year it will certainly feel like it. Our heat indices are anywhere from 105 to 112 degrees by the afternoon hours.
Much of the central and NE half of the state is in a Heat Advisory, with an Excessive Heat Warning for parts of NE and SE Nebraska. Both are in affect until 9:00pm Friday.
Later in the evening storm activity will arrive for the eastern half of the state, following a cold front the system will cool our weekend temperatures.
The storm activity Friday evening has much of the state in a Marginal Risk (level 1/5) for Severe Weather, with some NE counties in a Slight Risk (level 2/5) and Enhanced Risk (level 3/5).
Damaging wind speeds, large hail and strong to severe thunderstorms are the biggest threats. The Storm Alert Team will continue to track this system as it approaches.
If you are not a fan of the extreme heat, you’re in luck! Following a cold front, temperatures briefly dip into the lower 90s and upper 80s for the weekend.
