Hot for a few more days; Relief in sight

MORE INTENSE HEAT

We still have a few more days of intense heat left, and we have a variety of heat alerts to account for that. Heat Advisories remain in place for much of the state through 9 p.m. Friday.

Excessive Heat Warnings are also in place for portions of southern Nebraska through 9 p.m. Friday. This includes Grand Island, Hastings, York, Hebron, and Beatrice. Not only will these areas see high heat index values during the afternoon, but overnight temperatures will struggle to cool off, especially in this region.

Heat Alerts

Actual air temperatures will top out in the upper-90s to near 100° on Thursday, with several locations very likely exceeding 100°. While not record-breaking, this is still about 10° above average.

Mb Dma Today High

The humidity will still be at play, although dew points should be a touch lower. Nevertheless, we’ll still see heat indices (i.e. feels-like temperatures) pushing 110° by peak heating.

We should also note that there will be some cloud cover to start the day. While we do have the clouds, we cannot completely rule out a spotty shower.

This will primarily be a morning issue as more sunshine will eventually prevail. The clouds may slow the warming trend initially, but afternoon sunshine will still result in hot high temperatures.

RELIEF IN SIGHT

It will still be hot on Friday. There will also be a pair of fronts to watch that could generate some thunderstorms. Late afternoon and evening storms are possible on a spotty basis, and then we could see some more storms later in the night.

Stormcast Friday Night

A cold front clears the area on Friday night, and this will deliver cooler air over the weekend. This will allow us to trade triple-digit heat for highs in the 80s and 90s this weekend.
