Hot, Storms Likely Thursday Evening
Severe Weather Potential:
Latest Update: 11:39 a.m. CDT
The threat of severe weather continues throughout the day on Thursday. The Storm Prediction Center has much of the state under a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) with large hail and damaging winds being the main concerns, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. The 11:30 a.m. CDT SPC outlook increased chances for an isolated tornado and large hail in northeast Nebraska. Damaging winds are now expected to be possible across most of central and eastern portions of the state.
Stormcast shows storms firing up near the Tri-Cities around 8 p.m. CDT and reaching Lincoln close to 11 p.m. CDT.
The possibility of severe weather continues on Friday with the southeast corner of the state under a Slight Risk and the majority of the state under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5). All severe hazards will be possible, with storms expected during the evening hours. Keep it tuned to the Storm Alert Team for the latest severe weather updates.
Forecast:
We have a hot one ahead in Lincoln with the high temperature today reaching the upper 90s. Strong winds will be out of the south at 10 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts up to 30.
The heat will cover most of southeast Nebraska, with most of us seeing highs in the low to middle 90s. Winds out of the south will help keep things warm this afternoon.
We will see some brief relief from the heat on Saturday before temperatures return to the lower and middle 90s to start next week. Just as quickly as those warmer temperatures get going, a cold front will race through the state Tuesday into Wednesday to bring us high temperatures in the upper 70s.
