Hot weekend ahead, storm chances Sunday night
Extreme Weekend Heat:
The National Weather Service has included parts of the state in both a Heat Advisory (Orange) and an Extreme Heat Warning (Pink)
- Heat Advisory: Dangerous heat conditions possible. Consider postponing any outdoor plans and drink plenty of water. Heat illnesses will be more likely, particularly for sensitive groups.
- Extreme Heat Warning: Dangerous heat conditions are in progress. Hydrate, limit extended times outdoors and in direct sunlight. Heat illnesses are possible for all groups if proper precautions are not taken.
High temperatures above 100 degrees will be possible once again on Saturday. Low temperatures overnight will stay close to 80 degrees, giving little relief from the heat.
Wind speeds will remain strong out of the south, sustained at 20 to 25 mph. Gusts upwards of 40 mph will be possible until Sunday night.
Severe Storm Potential:
There is a slight (Level 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather on Saturday. If a storm is able to materialize, it could bring damaging winds and large hail.
Sunday evening brings a higher chance for severe weather across central portions of Nebraska. There is a slight (Level 2 out of 5) risk from the Tri-Cities up to the northeastern corner of the state. Isolated storms are expected to form along a passing front that will be capable of producing damaging winds.
Certainly a hot weekend ahead, but relief from the heat comes Sunday night into Monday with an approaching cold front. As an upper-level system stalls out across the southeastern United States, rain chances remain in the forecast for our area for the majority of the next work week. High temperatures return to near average by next Tuesday.
