Hotter and hotter from here
For almost the rest of Saturday, most of southern Nebraska is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch through 11 p.m. This includes scattered storm activity expected to continue through the evening with a few storms having the ability to produce large hail and strong winds.
One of the latest short-term models shows another wave of activity from South Dakota rolling into northern Nebraska and then pushing south through central Nebraska. These last-ditch storms could still produce gusty winds and hail through the latter part of the watch timeline.
Sunday will start with mostly clear skies and temperatures in the low to mid 60s. Sun should dominate the day, as we continue a very warm period coming up. Temperatures again will be in the 90s on Sunday, with highs in the mid to upper 90s.
And then, it’s hotter and hotter from there. With little to no rain in the forecast, we’ll be both hot and dry. By Monday, we’ll start to feel like it’s over 100° outside, flirting with triple-digit heat indices through Thursday.
But even beyond Thursday, the Climate Prediction Center shows we’ve got a good chance to be above average through the end of the month. The 6-10 day outlook right now covers next Friday through the following Tuesday, August 1st.
Of course, ongoing storms in Nebraska for Saturday will be something our attention is on, so tune in to the Channel 8 Storm Alert Team for the latest.
