Hottest temperatures in 39 years; Heat index nears 110°
It has been advertised for over a week. Tuesday is going to be HOT. Temperatures will climb to the upper 90°s and lower 100°s by afternoon. This will lead to it being Lincoln’s hottest August 2 in 39 years! I might be going a little conservative with the temperature in Lincoln Tuesday afternoon. I would not be surprised if it reaches 102° or 103°.
If you are wondering about this being a record high for the date, I don’t think we’ll get that warm. The record high for today in Lincoln is 107° set in 1930.
The humidity should not be as high Tuesday as it was Monday afternoon when the dew point temperature remained stagnant in the middle 70°s. Dew point temperatures are forecast to be in the upper 60°s to around 70°.
Even with slightly less humid air in place, it is still going to feel oppressively hot by late Tuesday afternoon. Heat indices should top out between 106° and 110°.
Heat Advisories will be in effect this afternoon through the evening for the eastern two-thirds of Nebraska.
A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday evening in to Wednesday morning. Where rain develops should be mainly over northern portions of Nebraska. A few showers could approach I-80 early Wednesday morning.
