How to be safe with space heaters

It’s that time of the season to be fully aware of your space heater.

“Remember when you use your space heater is don’t use extension cords, power strips or any sort of wall adapter with it, they need to be directly into the wall to be as safe as possible,” says Lincoln Fire Fighter Jason Klipfel.

So when you are trying to get toasty warm on those cold winter days, it’s very important you keep track of that space heater.

According to Lincoln Fire and Rescue, the number one misconception is very simple.

“That they’re safe. They can be used safely, but they are not inheritable safe. You have to know how to use them properly to prevent burning your house,” said Klipfel.

So before the harsh winter months come along to make sure you know what to do with your space heater.

Keep it three feet away from anything flammable and make sure that you keep it plugged into the wall, and not into any type of extension cord.
