Lincoln Electric System offers advice on how to keep your energy bills down

With those hot summer days lining up, Lincoln Electric System (LES) gave a reminder on how to keep your home cool without breaking the bank.

Jay Steoa with LES tells us, “Thermostat setting for energy efficiency we recommend 78 degrees. And a rule of thumb we always use for every degree you raise for your thermostat you’re going to save 3 to 5 percent on your cooling cost.”

LES recommends that you clean or replace your furnace filters regularly. A dirty or plugged filter reduces efficiency and increases your cost. Keeping sunlight out is the simplest way to keep your home cool.

“Really on these really sunny days on the sunny side of the home, southwest facing, you wanna pull the drapes because you do generate a lot of heat through the sun that can come in, and you gotta remove that heat so just closing the drapes can have a huge impact.” Steoa urges.
