How to stay safe as heat wave hits Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Heat is the No. 1 cause of weather-related deaths.

And as a heat wave approaches Nebraska, first responders are ready to help when people call them.

“We have been having a few heat-related calls, or what we expect are heat-related, at this point in time,” said Lincoln Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Mark Majors said.

Drinking water and staying hydrated are the most important things to keep in mind during heat waves.

Majors also reminds those working outside to take breaks frequently.

One of Channel 8’s weather experts said the rest of the week will be

“We got upper 90s in the forecaster,” Meteorologist Malcolm Byron said. “Saturday looks like it’s going to be our warmest day, where temperatures could easily get into the triple-digit territory for most of southeast Nebraska.”

Remember to keep an eye on the elderly and on those who need it the most during extreme weather.
