Capital Humane Society receives 84 cats from single owner

The Capital Humane Society received 84 cats and kittens from a single owner over the weekend.

A post on the humane society’s Facebook page said the animals all appear to be in a good health, with veterinary staff conducting wellness exams and spay and neuter surgeries.

The humane society said the sudden influx has put a strain on the humane society’s resources, including staff time and supplies.

“We are going through lots of litter, cat & kitten chow, shoe boxes, bedding, and more right now! But that is just on the daily care side of the situation! Additional microchips, vaccinations, and Feline Leukemia/FIV tests have been ordered which combined are over $25 per cat/kitten!” the post reads.

The cats will eventually be put up for adoption, with some of them being available for adoption as early as Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Pieloch Pet Adoption Center.
