Humid and hot for June’s final weekend; renewed storm chances late Sunday
We have made it to Friday and the final weekend of June!
Patchy areas of fog will be possible early this morning, but mainly north through northeast Nebraska. Tons of sunshine in Friday’s forecast will boost temperatures to the lower 90s again.
All of Friday and a majority of the weekend is expected to remain dry now after a rainy week. Temperatures this afternoon across the state are expected to be in the 90s. Just a touch cooler maybe for those that see some patchy fog in the morning.
The humidity won’t be overbearing, so anticipate heat indices only a little bit higher than the actual temperature.
It’s starting to feel like we’re settling into summer as we get used to the humidity around here.
A bit of forcing is expected to track along the South Dakota border this afternoon and evening, but storm coverage is expected to be very limited. What storm may form up in north central Nebraska may really pack a punch, though.
There’s a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk up that way for a damaging wind and hail threat. Damaging wind gusts could be up to 75 mph, and hail with that storm could be 2″+ in diameter.
More heat settles in for the weekend: it’ll feel more like 100° by Saturday with the sunshine and the humidity. Most of Sunday will be dry before another front will renew chances for storms late.
Storm coverage on Saturday will remain rather low as well, with most missing out on any rain altogether. There is a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk that begins in northeast Nebraska but extends north over South Dakota and Minnesota.
The main threat with storms Saturday would be damaging wind.
By Sunday, the risk drops to a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for isolated strong to severe storms possible Sunday evening and night.
A front will renew storm chances for a lot of us, while the main threat again would be damaging wind.
