Humid with isolated storms Monday evening; better chances by Tuesday

From the strong line of storms that swept through Nebraska on Sunday into early Monday, very high winds were observed especially near North Platte. Wind gusts were almost nearing 100 mph as reported just four miles south-southwest of North Platte.

A list of the highest wind gusts can be seen below.

Lsr Wind Gust

This event turned from a hail event into a wind event as individual storms grew and merged into a line moving across the state. Some of the bigger hailstones in Nebraska were noted at golf ball to lime sizes (1.75-2″ in diameter).

Now looking into this upcoming week, there are storm chances again on Monday and Tuesday, before we end on a much quieter note. Only a couple isolated storms are possible first, by Monday evening.

Week Ahead

Humidity will “stick” around for a majority of Monday, too, with dew point temperatures steady in the upper 60s through the late morning and afternoon. Partly sunny skies and light winds won’t be much help in moving some of that heavier-feeling air.

Again, just a couple of pop-up storms possible that are not expected to be all that threatening. Severe threat will be very limited on Monday, until stronger storms expected to fire by Tuesday afternoon.

Stormcast Monday

So for Tuesday, there’s a Marginal to Slight risk across southeastern Nebraska as storms first fire up in the green area below and move southeast, picking up intensity as they get closer to Beatrice and Nebraska City.

Primary threats to watch out for will be large hail, wind gusts up to 80 mph and a brief tornado.

Spc Tuesday

Storms will start forming in and around Lincoln heading into 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, before forming move of a line as they move southeast. They are expected to be stronger around 4-5 p.m. as they get farther across southeast Nebraska Tuesday afternoon.

Then the quieter days of the week will unfold Wednesday through Friday, thankfully. Less humidity expected with those days, too!
