It’s been a heart–wrenching week for the community around Weeping Water, as they’ve tried to grasp what tragically happened to the bright and beautiful Speer family, who was killed during a fire inside their home last week.
Funeral services for Mike, Michelle and their three daughters Addilyn, Emma and Anniston – as well as their eldest daughter Elli, who’s biological father is James Perez of Omaha – Were held Tuesday at Calvary Christian Church in Bellevue.
Family and friends were encouraged to wear something that reminded them of the family.
Many people wore pink in honor of the girls, camouflage for Mike, who was an avid hunter, or workout gear for Michelle, who loved to run.
Yesterday, the state fire marshal confirmed embers from a fireplace inside the home caused the fire.
The family died from smoke inhalation.
More than 900 people attended the service today.
The service had to be video streamed into another room to accommodate all the attendees.
Police also had to direct traffic to ensure everyone could make it to the funeral safely.
Lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial donations that will go to support the volunteer Cass County fire departments and Conestoga Elementary School, where the girls attended school.
