Hundreds of customers without cable, Spectrum without answers

A line wrapped around the the Spectrum customer service center in Lincoln Tuesday morning.

Dozens of people lined up outside the facility near 16th and Old Cheney all complaining they had no cable service.

“This one here is not working and my only one is working is in the front room. I called and they said they couldn’t get someone out until Saturday,” said Dorothy Houdek, a longtime Spectrum customer.

Channel 8 Eyewitness News spoke with several customers who said their cable went out at around 6:30 Monday evening.

Many said they tried resetting their boxes, even calling the company, but nothing worked.

“This is not my first rodeo. I rebooted the box, it did the same thing. I rebooted it again, it did the same thing. Let me tell you how frustrated I am– I left the house without my teeth in– that’s how mad I am!” said Fred Muyer.

A Channel 8 Eyewitness News reporter went inside the Spectrum service center around 10 Tuesday morning looking for answers.

Over fifty people were waiting in line, many had been there since the building opened at 9:00 a.m..

Several customers told Channel 8 Eyewitness News that Spectrum said the problem was due to a power outage, but none of them had lost power.

A Spectrum spokesman gave Channel 8 Eyewitness News the following statement:

“We are aware of an issue impacting some set top boxes for users in the Lincoln area. Users report their boxes are rebooting and not connecting. Our engineers are actively engaged, working to address the problem. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Some customers who came in were given new cable boxes, but others left empty handed.

The issue had some people considering other companies.

“If I’m going to pay for service there should be some way for me to get my service. I wish there was another competitor,” said Houdek.
