Hundreds of winter coats donated to LPS students for upcoming season
Bubba's Closet saw their biggest year yet.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Hundreds of winter coats will now be going to Lincoln Public School students to make sure they stay warm on the playground this season.
“We do see kids come to school, in every school in Lincoln, has kids that come to school without coats, that this will benefit them tremendously,” Amy Carnie, the Principal of Hill Elementary School said.
LPS had over 1,000 requests from families who were in need of a new coat this winter.
Bubba’s Closet saw their biggest year yet with 780 winter coats.
The district started gathering coats 25 years ago, and all these years later, the need is even greater.
“We see the need for kids when we go outside for recess in the Nebraska winters, when they’re walking to school, just to help families out with providing a warm coat so they can do those things safely,” Carnie said.
LPS started collecting new winter coats for this season about three weeks ago, and the community has stepped up.
Every principal within the district will now take these winter coats back to their schools and distribute them among those who need them.
Carnie says it feels like Christmas morning.
The stylish, new winter coats will not only be keeping kids warm this year, but give them a little boost to their confidence.
