Hundreds turn out for opening day at Warhorse Casino

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln’s first casino had a line out the door Saturday, with many excited to try their hands at the slot machines.

On day one, casino managers were expecting to have over a thousand casino-goers by the end of the day.

“It’s been a great experience and a really emotional morning today when the first people were walking through the doors,” casino Vice President Pete Gratziano said. “We had a great time today.”

Warhorse Casino currently has 433 slot machines, horse racing and plenty of drinks. It’s open 24 hours a day.

The full resort and casino will be built surrounding the temporary one, but it won’t be done for another 18 months. Even in the temporary casino, there’s already plenty of excitement among the customers.

“Great grand opening,” one patron said. “I won a little bit of money, and my husband did, too, and now we’re getting the heck out of here.”

But other patrons didn’t have the same luck.

“I don’t want to tell my husband, but I lost a lot of money,” one guest said. “We’ll take it out of retirement. Love you, honey!”

Win or lose, many are excited to have a casino right here in Lincoln.
