Mississippi hunters make historic gator catch
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 14-foot-3 gator broke the Mississippi state record for “longest alligator harvested.”
A group of Mississippi hunters captured the 800-plus-pound reptile in the west central alligator hunting zone, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
These hunts have been permitted in Mississippi since 2005. In 2021 alone, 776 alligators were caught.
The average length of those gators was just under 8 feet.
