Husker baseball routs Wildcats in game one of doubleheader

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska baseball team hit its stride early Saturday afternoon, stomping Northwestern 14-4 in seven innings in the first game of a doubleheader at Haymarket Park.

As a team, the Huskers totaled 11 hits and four extra base hits while committing zero errors. The Wildcats racked up seven hits and left six runners on base.

Nebraska jumped on Northwestern early, plating five runs in the first inning and two in the second to build a 7-0 lead.

Cayden Brumbaugh and Max Buettenback led the Huskers from the plate with two hits apiece.

Gabe Swansen knocked in a team-high four RBIs via a grand slam in the first inning, while Buettenback, Joshua Overbeek and Will Jesske each had two RBIs.

Ty Horn (1-4) took home his first win of the season for Nebraska, pitching five innings while only giving up three runs on five hits and fanning six batters.

Jacob Hand led the Wildcats with a 2-for-3 showing from the plate with one RBI and a double.

Game two of the doubleheader between the Huskers and the Wildcats is currently in the top of the fourth inning.

The Huskers hold a 1-0 lead.
