Just one day after Bill Callahan's firing, the search process for his replacement is well underway. On Sunday, a plane owned by Nebraska booster Richard Robinson took off from Lincoln en route to Baton Rouge and it is reported that NU interim athletic director Tom Osborne and Chancellor Harvey Pearlman were on-board and talked to Pelini Sunday night. He served as Nebraska's defensive coordinator under former coach Frank Solich.

Tom Osborne has also been granted permission to speak with Buffalo coach Turner Gill about the Cornhuskers coaching job, the Buffalo News is reporting. Gill is a former Nebraska quarterbacking great and has served as an assistant coach on the Cornhuskers staff. He's been the Buffalo head coach for two seasons and turned it from one of the worst programs in the country to a contender in the Mid-American Conference this season.
