Husker fans pack Devaney to watch Nebraska ‘smoke’ Florida A&M
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Eight thousand fans packed the Devaney Center on Friday night for the first round of this year’s NCAA volleyball tournament in Lincoln.
The postseason brought out full crowds of support for the Huskers.
“They’re making a difference,” Whitney Cyr said. “It’s really cool to see it coming from Nebraska volleyball.”
Fans were already making their way into the arena hours before tipoff, many traveling a long way.
“I just moved back here,” Chelsea Heuer said. “I grew up playing volleyball and loving volleyball. It’s just a big thing in our family. I’m so excited to be back and to be able to go to the games instead of watching TV.”‘
Another fan, Beth Murphy, said she drove four hours for the match.
“That says a lot about this Husker fan base,” she said.
The best thing about the team the fans enjoy is when they play as one unit.
“They play as team, they’re together,” said Laurie Shaal. “They’re excited; it gets the crowd excited.”
Fans were ready to watch the Huskers dominate the Rattlers, and they did.
“I want to see them smoke them,” Mike Shaal said. “Smoke ’em in three, and get my hot dog, go home and get ready for tomorrow.”
Fans will look to pack the house once again Saturday vs. Miami at 7 p.m.
