Husker fans react to big wins in basketball & volleyball

For Husker fans, Saturday was one of the biggest sports days in recent memory.
A pair of husker athletic teams passed two major tests Saturday.
The men’s basketball team played host to Creighton, a team they hadn’t beaten in eight years.
Before the game, fans were out and about in the Haymarket in downtown Lincoln.
Fans say there was a different kind of energy in the air.
“It’s a big game because I’m from Omaha, and we want some bragging rights for the huskers and then I can talk to all my Creighton friends, and it’s long over due, it’s been seven years so it’s time for a husker victory,” said Todd Stover.
“The rivals across town, you just hate to lose to them, its been quite a few losing years in a row so a win against them would taste a lot more sweet and definitely, a little different when Creighton is in town than when anyone else is,” said Shane Kalin.
The husker basketball team got out to a great start, getting out to a 34–16 lead and making 6 of the team’s first 9 three pointers against Creighton.
It was an important game for coach Tim Miles, who was 0–7 against Creighton going into the match up.
“I think the players are all jacked up to win it for Miles, none of them have beaten Creighton before so it’s a big game,” said Stover.
The huskers cruised to a 94 to 75 win.
Meanwhile, over in Minneapolis, the husker volleyball team was defending its national title against Oregon.
The huskers won it in straight sets, reaching the final four for the fourth consecutive season!
“I think if you’ve got a pulse in Nebraska you’re paying attention to the volleyball, I mean, it’s hard not too, yeah we’re pumped,” said Zach Wright.
Fans were overjoyed to see their team get the win in both sports.
“Just such a great environment in Lincoln right now, I’m really excited and I think most of the fans around town are really excited too so it’s pretty awesome here today,” said Kalin.
