HUSKER HISTORY: Nebraska basketball thumps Troy, wins first NCAA Tournament game in program history

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska men’s basketball team made history on Thursday, beating Troy 76-47 to win its first NCAA Tournament game in program history.
Troy was hot early, taking a 15-12 lead in the first half, but it was all Nebraska from that point on.
As a team, the Huskers shot 43% from the floor and 36% from deep, while Troy shot 28% from the floor and 29% from beyond the arc.
Nebraska lit it up from beyond the arc, hitting a total of 14 3-pointers in the game.
Pryce Sandfort was nearly automatic for Nebraska, scoring 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 7 3-pointers.
Jamarques Lawrence racked up 13 points, while Rienk Mast tallied 11 points and dished out a team-high seven assists.
Braden Frager scored 13 points, while Sam Hoiberg pulled in a team-high nine boards.
Nebraska’s defense was also a big storyline, forcing 17 turnovers and scoring 17 points off those turnovers.
With the win, the Huskers advance to the Round of 32. They will await the winner of Vanderbilt and McNeese.
Tipoff for that game is set for Saturday at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. Tipoff time will be set following the conclusion of Vanderbilt/McNeese.

As a team, the Huskers are shooting 40% from the floor and 35% from deep, while Troy is shooting 33% from the floor and 33% from deep.
Towards the beginning of the game, Troy held a brief 15-12 lead, but Nebraska finished the half on a 29-10 run to take a commanding lead.
Pryce Sandfort leads the Huskers with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting, with all five makes being from deep.
Nebraska also owns the offensive glass, scoring 17 second-chance points and 14 points in the paint.
