On Wednesday, Hoiberg spent time at the podium talking about what to expect from this year’s squad.
“I’m really excited about our group,” he said. “I have a team that’s got great toughness and length and I can say that it’s the first time we’ve had a group with positional size across the board, which is so important in this league.”
During the 2021-22 season, the men’s team went 4-16 in conference play and 10-22 overall.
But the Huskers did finish their season off strong with wins against Penn State, No. 23 Ohio State and No 10 Wisconsin before losing to Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament.
“Every day these guys step on the floor, they compete and I do know that this is a team that our fan base will be able to rally behind just because of the makeup and character of this group,” Hoiberg said.

On the other hand, the women’s team saw more success last season
Nebraska ended its season with an 11-7 conference record and even made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

The team was coming into this upcoming season with a lot of momentum, but in the offseason, Sam Haiby suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Williams said the Huskers team will need to rally together and adjust to Haiby’s absence.
“She’s been an incredibly important piece to our program,” Williams said. “She came and chose to come to the University of Nebraska at a time when she really had to believe in the vision that we had and has just grinded through with us and stuck through a lot of ups and down to elevate to get us back into the NCAA tournament”
Nebraska men’s will open up its season against Chadron State at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Oct. 23.
And the women are set to face Washburn in their season opener at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Oct. 30.
