Husker men’s hoops adds 6-foot-9 forward Matar Diop to roster

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Matar Diop, a 6-foot-9 forward from Senegal, is joining Nebraska basketball next season, head coach Fred Hoiberg said Monday.
Diop, who has a 7-foot-3 wingspan, spent last season at Keystone Athletic Academy in Effort, Pennsylvania.

He played at the NBA Academy Africa, a training center in Senegal for top prospects throughout Africa.
Earlier this summer, Diop was selected to play in the NBA Academy Games in Atlanta.
“We are pleased to add Matar to our roster,” Hoiberg said in a press release. “At 6-9, 225, he gives us size, length and athleticism and is a good complement to our other frontcourt players. Our fans will like that Matar has a big-time motor, and he is not afraid to do the tough things that help teams be successful.”
Dior selected Nebraska over several other schools, including Ole Miss and Seton Hall.
