Husker QB’s still battling for starting spot

Adrian Martinez and Luke McCaffrey are still competing for the starting quarterback spot heading into the fifth game of the season.

LINCOLN, Ne. (KLKN) – The Huskers are heading into their fifth game of the season this Friday against Iowa, and the team still does not have a consistent starting quarterback.

Since the start, both Adrian Martinez and Luke McCaffrey have competed for the starting position. Martinez started the first two games of the season, and McCaffrey got the call for Penn State and Illinois this past weekend.

Head coach Scott Frost said Monday during a press conference that every week is going to be the same, a competition between the two. However, he admits that he sees McCaffrey being the future of this program.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Luke McCaffrey is our future,” Frost said. “But we’ve got to play the guy that gives us the best chance.”

But following the devastating 41-23 loss to Illinois, Frost admits that he and his coaching staff need to work harder on preparing his quarterbacks to play their best game.

“We have to do a better job as coaches to get those guys to max out their potential,” Frost said.
