Huskers fall short to No. 23 USC after Dylan Raiola injures ankle in third quarter

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The blackout at Memorial Stadium Friday night quickly turned sour after Dylan Raiola was injured.

Nebraska fell short to No. 23 USC, 21-17.

It was another sold out crowd for the Huskers, coating the stadium in black for the first time in program history.

It was promising first half. On its first drive, Nebraska churned out a 75-yard drive that ended with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Dane Key.

The Huskers defense held firm in the first half, holding USC to just 6 points.

Nebraska went into the break leading 14-6 after Emmett Johnson scored a 10-yard rushing touchdown before the end of the half.

Johnson finished with 165 yards on 29 carries.

But in the third quarter, quarterback Dylan Raiola suffered an ankle injury after being sacked. He did not return to the game. Raiola finished with 91 yards passing, completing 10 of his 15 passes, and throwing for one touchdown.

Freshman TJ Lateef came into the game and completed 5 of his 7 passes for 7 yards. The Huskers offense only put up 3 points in the second half.

USC scored two touchdowns, including one 2-point conversion.

With the 21-17 loss, Nebraska falls to 6-3, effectively eliminating them from playoff contention.

The Huskers will head out west next Saturday for a road matchup versus UCLA. That game is set to kickoff at 8 p.m.
