Huskers fall to No. 18 Wisconsin on the road, drop sixth straight
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska men’s basketball team lost its sixth-straight game Sunday, falling 83-55 to No. 18 Wisconsin at the Kohl Center in Madison.
The Badgers jumped on the Huskers early, getting out to a 19-2 lead only five minutes into the game. Wisconsin also hit five 3-pointers in that span.
Nebraska was able to settle down and cut the Badgers’ lead to three with five minutes left in the half, but another run by the Badgers gave them a 40-28 lead at the break.
The Badgers proved to be too much and ran away with their eighth win in nine games.
Wisconsin shot 47.6% from the floor compared to Nebraska’s 33.9%. The Badgers were 17-for-37 from deep, marking the second-straight game they hit 15 or more 3-pointers.
The Huskers had trouble taking care of the ball as well, racking up 12 turnovers. The Badgers made the Huskers pay for their careless play, totaling 17 points off those turnovers.
Nebraska was led by Brice Williams with 11 points while shooting 4-for-12 from the floor. Nobody else scored more than 10 points.
Brice and his father Henry became the seventh father-son combo to reach the 4,000-point mark at the Division I level. The pair now has 4,002 career points.
Juwan Gary led the Huskers in rebounds with nine, while Rollie Worster dished out a team-high four assists.
In Connor Essegian’s return to Wisconsin, he scored 8 points with a 2-for-7 mark from deep.
Wisconsin was led by Omaha Central product John Tonje with 27 points. John Blackwell tallied 14 points, while Kamari McGee racked up 11.
Max Klesmit, Steven Crowl and Nolan Winter each had seven rebounds to lead the team. Xavier Amos totaled a team-high four assists.
The Huskers will head back home for another test to take on Illinois at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
