LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska football team made a statement Saturday night, beating Colorado 28-10 at Memorial Stadium.

Nebraska was led by their defense, holding the Colorado offense to 260 total yards and sacking Shedeur Sanders five times.

The Blackshirts made their presence felt early with a pick-six from Tommi Hill to give the Huskers a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

Dante Dowdell led the Huskers on the ground with 74 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns.

Dylan Raiola was very efficient from the pocket, completing 23 of his 30 passes for 185 yards and one touchdown.

The lead receiver for the Huskers was Rahmir Johnson with 49 yards and a touchdown.

Nebraska will be back in action next week against Northern Iowa at 6:30 in Memorial Stadium.

The Huskers are 2-0 for the first time since 2016.

First quarter

The Huskers couldn’t of asked for a better way to start this game.

Nebraska forced a three-and-out on Colorado’s opening drive, ending in a sack by Ty Robinson.

The Huskers took the ball right down the field and got a 12-yard touchdown run from Dante Dowdell to take and early 7-0 lead.

But lets not forget about the Blackshirts.

A punt backed the Buffaloes up inside their own 2-yard line. Tommi Hill jumped a hitch route for a pick-six to put the Huskers up 14-0.

Shedeur Sanders has been sacked as many times as he’s completed a pass in the first quarter.

Second quarter

The Huskers didn’t miss a beat to start the second quarter.

They stayed hot on the ground with a nine-play, 86-yard drive that was finished off with a 2-yard touchdown run from Dowdell, making the score 21-0.

Towards the end of the first half, Colorado finally put a drive together. Sanders was able to find Travis Hunter multiple times, but they stalled out in the red zone.

The Blackshirts came up big, blocking Colorado’s field goal attempt and keeping their lead at 21.

The Nebraska offense was looking for points to end the half and that’s exactly what they did.

An 18-yard touchdown pass from Raiola to Rahmir Johnson gave the Huskers a commanding 28-0 lead at the half.

Raiola ended the first half completing 14 of his 17 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown.

Dowdell led the Huskers from the backfield with 47 yards and two touchdowns.

The Buffaloes had -19 yards of total rushing and 130 yards through the air. Sanders was sacked four times.

Third quarter

The Buffs finally got on the board with their first drive of the second half.

Colorado got inside the 10-yard line, but Nebraska’s defense stood tall and kept them out of the end zone.

A 27-yard field goal from Alejandro Mata made the score 21-3 in favor of the Huskers.

Fourth quarter

The Buffs made another dent into Nebraska’s lead thanks to Sanders’ arm.

Colorado had a six-play, 68-yard drive that ended in a 5-yard touchdown pass to LaJohntay Wester, making the score 28-10.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE — The Nebraska football team is back in action Saturday as they take on Colorado at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

After beating UTEP 40-7 last Saturday, the Huskers are facing their first big test of the season in Colorado’s high-powered offense.

The star-studded duo of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter could give the Nebraska secondary some problems, and they will need help from the defensive line to have success.

What you need to know about Colorado

We all know what Colorado wants to do: throw the football. Not because they want to, but because they have to.

Last season, the Buffaloes ranked last in rushing yards per game, and in week one they only ran for 59 yards.

If Nebraska can use their defensive line to disrupt Sanders and the Colorado passing game, it will be hard for the Buffaloes to move the ball.

Colorado’s defense added some key pieces this season, but still gave up close to 500 yards against North Dakota State last week.

Dylan Raiola and the Nebraska offense showed they can move the ball in week one, so look for Nebraska to score a lot of points, if the turnover bug doesn’t bite.

Last year against Colorado, Nebraska started the game with two fumbles, an interception and three punts.

Tonight’s numbers

50: Nebraska is looking for their 50th win all time against Colorado. The Huskers lead the all-time series against the Buffaloes with a 49-21-2 record.

100: Ty Robinson enters tonight’s game with 99 career tackles, one shy of 100.

1994: Nebraska will honor the 1994 National Championship team during pre-game ceremonies. More than 100 members of that team will be in attendance.

Score Predictions

Nate Johnson: Huskers win, 28-27

Jake Homan: Huskers win, 34-30

Mark Fischer: Huskers win, 34-26
