Huskers making March Madness gives extra boost to Lincoln businesses
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – As March Madness tips off, bars and restaurants in the Haymarket say it’s bringing in business.
Cody Schmick, co-owner of Bierhaus Maisschäler, said this year is especially exciting, with the Husker men making it to the tournament for the first time since 2014.
He said events outside football season are essential to keeping the Haymarket alive, and Bierhaus is ready.

“People can come in, get a pint of beer, get a sausage, get a pretzel and watch the game,” Schmick said. “It’s really been cool to see how our crowds are growing as Nebraska basketball becomes better and more competitive across the nation.”
The bar even had to adjust staffing for game days.

Gate 25 Bar and Restaurant said it’s also seeing an increase in fans.
The bar made two brackets for both patrons and staff.
One fan, Drew Denker, said he’s been going out to watch basketball games for years.
“Going to home games this year, it’s been by far one of the most fun I’ve ever had going to Husker games,” he said.

Denker said he’s noticed more people at games, as well as filling up bars downtown.
“You can see the local community’s really backed this team,” he said. “You can just see it kind of elevating now that we’re in the tournament.”
