Huskers rise in AP Poll, get top-25 matchup with Illinois
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska football team moved up in the national rankings on Sunday, rising to No. 22 in the AP Poll.
The Huskers were previously ranked No. 23, but moved up following Saturday’s win against Northern Iowa.
There are seven teams in the Big Ten that are nationally ranked: No. 3 Ohio State, No. 9 Oregon, No. 10 Penn State, No. 11 USC, No. 18 Michigan, No. 22 Nebraska and No. 24 Illinois.
No. 1 Texas took the top spot from Georgia (No. 2) after the Bulldogs escaped from Kentucky Saturday night.
Nebraska was also slotted at No. 22 in the Coaches Poll.
This is the highest Nebraska has been ranked since they reached No. 7 in 2016.
The Huskers will take on No. 24 Illinois on Friday, marking the first time a ranked vs ranked game will take place in Memorial Stadium since 2013 (vs UCLA).
