‘I dumpster dive:’ Omaha couple brings creative home decorations to Lincoln
Khind Designs can make just about anything for your home.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Kevin Hindmarsh has always had a joy for woodworking, but never had the time to do it. Just two years ago, he retired and decided to take up the hobby.
“My wife found some items that she liked, and said can you make this for me? I said sure I can make it for you. I was making stuff for her, my mom, sisters and neighbors and then people started wanting to buy it,” Hindmarsh said.
Hindmarsh and his wife founded Khind Designs. The couple makes craft items ranging from door hangers, shelving, ornaments and other home decor, but it’s not your average designs.
“It’s all repurposed wood,” Hindmarsh explained. “We use fence wood, barn wood, pallets and I go dumpster diving.”
They take what some would consider trash and make perfect gifts for any holiday, whether it’s Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas. Hindmarsh says he can make just about anything. The detail and time he puts into these creative pieces is what makes the place so special.
The reindeer made out of picket and fence boards have been the company’s most popular item. Hindmarsh said he started making the reindeer last week, and has sold over 100.
The company has earned quite the following as well. It’s based in Omaha, but makes trips down to Lincoln. The couple sells crafts from time to time at Salon DeJa Vu on A street.
Hindmarsh enjoys seeing customers fall in love with his handmade work.
“It’s kind of a good feeling.” he said. “It’s kind of nice especially knowing this stuff was going to the dumpster. It’s kind of fun too knowing you’re helping save our landfills and keep people happy at the same time.”
