9-year-old Cumberland girl among world’s top Jiu-Jitsu fighters

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A 9-year-old girl from Cumberland is turning heads around the world for her mastery of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

“I’m doing pretty good. I’m number 15, 18 years and under, in the whole world,” Grajo said.

Sufina Grajo started learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu just two years ago, and quickly racked up win after win against girls and boys.

Grajo practices at the Brazilian Top Team in Taunton, and has her sights set on an international competition in Florida this July.

“She really does well. I think in her last tournament, she won all of her matches,” said Jair Morselli, owner of Brazilian Top Team.

Grajo said she got into the sport so she could defend herself against bullies as she gets older. Now, she wants to be number one in the world.

“I’m really excited for that because I got third place, the last time I got second place,

and now I’m going to go for gold,” Grajo said.
