All eyes on Rhode Island rivers as water levels continue to rise
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — All eyes were on the rivers on Thursday as water levels were expected to hit extreme heights.
The Pawtuxet and Blackstone rivers were still rising in crest, which could lead to further area flooding.
Southern New England saw widespread flooding after Tuesday’s heavy wind-driven rain, combined with the weekend snow melting.
The Pawtuxet surpassed its fifth highest crest on record on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service said the region will not be getting a break.
More rain — about 1 to 2 inches — is coming on Saturday, which may cause mire issues in communities along the rivers.
The Central Falls Department of Public Works said officials contacted some at-risk homes to warn them of the flood risk. The agency said all Central Falls residents who live near the Blackstone should take precautions.
