MIDDLEBOROUGH, MASS. (WLNE) — Donations for the Middleborough police officer and veteran who passed away after a lengthy battle with metastatic cancer haven’t stopped rolling in.
The Middleborough Police Department said Sunday that Lt. Angelo AJ Lapanna III passed away after more than two years battling stage-four metastatic head and neck cancer. He was 48-years-old.
The GoFundMe for the veteran and former officer began back in July of 2022, after Lapanna’s initial diagnosis with head and neck cancer in April of 2021. Following his diagnosis, family members said he underwent many surgeries in the following years.
Lapanna joined the Middleborough Police Department in July of 2001 as a patrol officer until 2019 when he was promoted to sergeant and served in that role until being promoted to lieutenant in August of this year.
Lt. Lapanna also served a 23-year-long career in the Army National Guard; with 10 years in the Military Police and 13-years as a Green Beret.
He is survived by his wife, his 14-year-old son and his 15-year-old daughter.
