Cranston man admits to production, possession of child pornography

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – A Cranston man has admitted to producing and possessing images and videos of child pornography.

United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha announced Wednesday that Gregory Phillips, 42, pleaded guilty to federal charges of production and possession of child pornography.

Phillips told the court that he produced sexually explicit images and videos involving a girl under ten years old in late 2021 and early 2022.

He also admitted that he stored those and other images and videos of child sexual abuse on a storage cloud that he controlled.

A forensic review of media on cellphones seized from Phillips resulted in the discovery of a total of 109 images and 15 videos of child pornography.

A review of a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) by the Rhode Island State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force led authorities to find the images and videos that were being transferred from an account linked to Phillips’s phone number.

Officials also confirmed images of Phillips and various household items and locations within his residence while reviewing the content.

Phillips’s sentence is scheduled for May 7 and will be determined by a federal district judge.
