PC Women’s Basketball Announces BIG EAST Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women’s basketball program unveiled its 2023-24 BIG EAST Conference regular-season schedule today [Sept. 28]. This year, the BIG EAST will shift to an 18-game conference schedule. Each school will play eight opponents twice and two opponents once. The Friars’ single-game opponents in 2023-24 will be Creighton and Marquette.

Many factors were considered when determining schedule pairings, including projected order of finish, established rivalries and television requests. The BIG EAST played a double-round robin schedule the previous 10 seasons. The adjustment to an unbalanced schedule provides greater flexibility in scheduling non-conference opponents.

The Friars open BIG EAST action at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J. against Seton Hall on Saturday, Dec. 30.

Providence returns to Alumni Hall to host back-to-back games against DePaul (Jan. 3) and St. John’s (Jan. 6). The Friars’ match-up against St. John’s will be nationally televised on FS1.

Providence will travel to Hartford, Conn. to face the Connecticut Huskies at the XL Center on Wednesday, Jan. 10. The Friars will remain on the road for their lone match-up against Creighton on Sunday, Jan. 14. The game will be played at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb.

On Wednesday, Jan. 17, Providence will host Georgetown at Alumni Hall before heading to Indianapolis to face Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Sunday, Jan. 21 on FS1.

Villanova comes to town for a midweek match-up on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The Friars close out the month of January with a trip to the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio to face Xavier on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Providence will host Marquette on Saturday, Feb. 3, marking the only meeting between the two teams during the regular season.

The Friars hit the road for back-to-back games against DePaul and Georgetown. The match-up against the Blue Demons will be played at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill. On Wednesday, Feb. 7. The Friars will face the Hoyas at McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The following week, Providence will host consecutive home games at Alumni Hall against Butler (Wednesday, Feb. 14) and Xavier (Sunday, Feb. 18).

The Friars will play their next two games on the road before completing the BIG EAST regular-season schedule with consecutive games at home.  On Wednesday, Feb. 21, Providence heads to Villanova, Pa. to face the Wildcats at Finneran Pavilion. The final road game on the regular-season conference slate will be played against St. John’s at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y. on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Providence will close out the regular season with a pair of home games at Alumni Hall against Seton Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 28 and Connecticut on Saturday, March 2. 

The 2024 BIG EAST Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament, presented by JEEP will be held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. on March 8-11.
