PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Lifespan Board of Directors announced Thursday that the president and CEO of Rhode Island’s largest hospital group is stepping down.
Dr. Timothy Babineau’s resignation will be effective as of May 31. He will stay on as a consultant to the system through the end of September.
“My initial impressions of Lifespan and our workforce have not only been validated but exceeded repeatedly over the years. It’s been nearly 10 years since I took this role, and while it has been difficult at times, it has been an extremely rewarding experience,” said Babineau.
He’s been Lifespan’s president and CEO since 2012, and has been credited with helping build the state’s largest multispecialty physician practice, Lifespan Physician Group.
The board will appoint an interim in the coming weeks and conduct a national search to find Babineau’s replacement.
