Quiet morning at T.F. Green amid anticipated hectic Thanksgiving travel

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Travelers at Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport were met with a pleasant surprise Wednesday morning: short lines and minimal delays.

Officials said the day before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days of the year, with millions either going home or going to visit family and friends for the big day.

Flyers were greeted with a quiet morning at T.F. Green.

“It’s the beauty of flying out of T.F. Green, it’s always very very mellow,” traveler Leandro Gonzalez told ABC 6 News.

According to the Associated Press, it wasn’t just in Rhode Island. The record travel rush appeared to be smooth sailing across the country.

AAA Northeast estimated nearly five million people will take to the skies across the country this weekend.

It’s expected to be the third busiest Thanksgiving holiday travel season on record.

Some flyers told ABC 6 they thought they’d need extra time.

“I actually really got here way too early, I could’ve stayed home another hour,” said Arlene Kennelly, flying to New Orleans.

Wednesday’s wind and rain also had travelers worried and getting to the airport early.

“So far we’re on time. It looks good and the lines — it’s not like it was earlier from what we saw,” said Douglas Plyler, flying to Orlando.

Airport officials told ABC 6 a harp player will arrive later Wednesday afternoon to alleviate some of the holiday travel stress for flyers.
